I HAVE HEARD FROM THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE;
I heard from Mel Purvis and his eye surgery was very successful on both eyes. He says he can now see like he did several years ago. That is great news, Mel.
I talked to Lou Scriba, 49-50, he said he had been having trouble with his prostate and three leaking valves in his heart. He is doing well now. They have moved to 706 Bramblewood Lakes Dr., Myrtle Beach, SC, 29588, ph. 843-236-5691.
I talked with Bob Stefanic, 52-55, he is still having Chemo until February for his cancer. His wife, Lillian, who was having back trouble in Nashville, is doing better after being bed ridden for a month. Good luck to both of you.
I want to thank Jean Alfieri, widow of Charles, 48-52, for the very generous $100.00 contribuion in his name. God bless you! I had a Christmas card from Lonnie Stokes saying he is doing real well. He wants to thank everyone for their cards and telephone calls. I had word today that our shipmate, Robert West, TE3, who served on board from 1955 to 1957, passed away this month and was buried on 12/23/06. We send our sympathy to his family. Steve Kasprzak and I talked with Ray Trombly the other day and he told us that he had to have a leg amputated due to poor circulation. He said he is doing well and plans to attend the 2007 Reunion in Peabody. His e-mail address is: cvtrat@aol.com I'm sure he'd like to hear from his friends. Joe McGovern's new telephone number is: 856-273-8009. Walter Ziem's new e-mail address is: blubyu@optonline.net I'm sure he'd like to hear from his buddies. Mike Fino has a new e-mail address: sugarpapas@aol.com I'm sure he'd like to hear from his buddies. An article appeared in the Indianapolis News the other day concerning the son of Jim and Janet Young adopting foreign children. It said they started adopting before it was fashionable-in Hollywood-and have adopted two girls, one from China and one from Russia. Congratulations, we applaud you. I want you to know that Walt Disney had back surgery last Thursday, Feb. 8th, to relieve pain in his back. He said the surgeon said he did not have to do anything to the disk, just clean out the arthritis and felt it was successful. He will have a three month recuperation period, during which he will wear a back brace. I received a CD containing pictures from our Nashvill Reunion from Daryle & Madaline Rodiquez. All the pictures were great, and I appreciate it very much. Thanks loads! At the present time we think we have a band that we will use in Peabody. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those suffering in upper New York from the 11 feet of snow. We hope it melts soon! Feb. 21, 2007, I received word today that our great shipmate, Steve Yorden, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2007. He was a great friend and a loyal shipmate. He will be deeply missed. Anyone who watched Ed walk knows how much pain he had to endure. Godspeed! Also, Carole, Ed's wife, had hand surgery and is doing fine. Both of them would enjoy hearing from you, so call or write to them. The new Tin Can Sailors website is out. The registry they have is not complete. If any of you were registered, please check the registry to see if your name and information is there. If it isn't, you will have to resubmit it. I talked with them about this situation, they said they didn't drop any others than those requesting their names be dropped, but the fact remains they were dropped.
